In Cold Mountain, Charles Frazier exposes the dark and animalistic truths that lay underneath the human exterior. Human nature, although complex, seems to revert back to the same basic self-serving mindset when placed under destitute situations. When opportunity presents itself, it is expected to find people who will take an advantage of those less fortunate.
